My path to becoming a health and wellness coach was unexpected, but it’s been an incredibly rewarding journey. Growing up a math and science kid, I knew in my early teens that I wanted to be an engineer. Fresh out of engineering school, I dove headfirst into my career as an electrical engineer. I worked in the field for almost four years, developing cellphone technologies for a global electronics brand.
After getting married and having my son, I decided to stay home and focus on being a mom. But life soon brought a major turning point, a time that brought a crucial realization into sharp focus: my health was fundamental to absolutely everything. When my son was 17 months old, the physical demands of motherhood led to a painful overuse injury in my right shoulder. The pain was so intense I couldn’t carry him anymore, and even basic household tasks became a real struggle. Being pregnant with my daughter at the same time added a whole other layer of worry – I couldn’t stop thinking about how I would possibly care for two little ones. Realizing I desperately needed help, I began looking for answers. This became my sole motivation: to not only find a way out of pain, but to build a strong body so I could be the active, present mom I wanted to be, without limitations holding me back.
Finding Reformer Pilates changed everything. Through its focused strength work, I rebuilt not just my shoulder but my entire body from head to toe. As my pain subsided, something very powerful emerged: I discovered the incredible feeling of everyday strength. Having a strong body made me feel empowered, confident, and capable again, dramatically enhancing my quality of life.
With staying healthy as my main goal, I started digging into the world of nutrition. I was amazed by the concept of ‘food as medicine’ – the idea that our daily food choices could have such a big impact on our health. My kitchen became a place of discovery. I started playing with new recipes, packing them with whole foods: fruits, veggies, beans, and whole grains. I was determined to whip up healthy meals that my family didn’t just tolerate, but actually looked forward to eating.
For me, healthy living was becoming more than just an interest – it was a true passion, and I wanted my work to reflect that. This new direction led me back to school for an MBA focused on healthcare, which opened the door to a fantastic opportunity: writing clear, evidence-based health information for companies dedicated to improving their customers’ metabolic health.
Through that writing work, I got to immerse myself in the latest research on a wide range of health topics – from nutrition and fitness to sleep management and stress reduction. I discovered how certain ways of eating could make or break our health, the countless benefits of regular exercise for the body and mind, and the real toll chronic disease takes on individuals and on society. I was also inspired by the science that showed that we have so much more control over our health than we realize; just because our genes say we are predisposed to a chronic disease doesn’t mean we are destined for it. Our lifestyle choices can significantly influence whether or not that disease becomes our reality.
Meanwhile, I noticed many of my friends and family were navigating their own health challenges, too. So many felt exhausted, overwhelmed by stress, and disconnected from their bodies, and were actively looking for ways to boost their energy and feel better.
And then came my lightbulb moment: I wanted to do more than write about wellness. I wanted to be in the trenches, helping real people make real changes. More than anything, I wanted to help others to see they already have what it takes within them to feel better – often, they just need a clear path forward.
Now, as a certified Wellcoaches® health and wellness coach, I have the privilege of walking alongside my clients every day as they transform their lives. Nothing is more rewarding for me than celebrating their wins, both big and small! I believe everyone deserves to feel that sense of strength, pride, accomplishment, and I’m here to help you find yours.
